Christmas Holiday in Lapland - Aurora, Wildlife and Astrophoto Tour
Say Swedish Lapland and images of a pristine mountain landscape, arctic wildlife and Aurora borealis soon come to mind. This tour brings it all to life! Photograph the alluring Aurora, drive your own dogsled through the ancient forest and tundra and photograph the largest deer in the world – moose.
We might be the only company in the world with a 100% success rate on Aurora photo tours 5 years in a row. This means that all previous guests participating on multi-day tours over the past five years have seen and captured the Aurora in beautiful environments. We are also the best ranked photo tour in Abisko on Tripadvisor.
The tour includes a wide range of activities
This all inclusice tour includes 3 nights at Aurora Wilderness Camp outside Kiruna. This is a very relaxed place perfect for photographing. Thanks to small groups (max 7 guests) the itinerary can be very flexible, offering the very best chances of capturing the images you long for. We will go dogsledding both day and evening time, moose photographing (we usually have very good viewing but no guarantee to see moose), a day visit to the ICEHOTEL and of course we will try to photograph the Aurora every night. If we have a nice display of the Aurora we will focus on Aurora photographing and if the conditions are optimal for astro photographing we will show you how to best take images of galaxies, the Milky Way, the Orion Nebula and other interesting objects on the sky. We are very flexible and want to make the very best of your time with us. During your entire stay we have access to an AWD VW minibus and snowmobile, which means you let us know where you want to go, our flexibility will get you there!
Your photo guide
Your guide will be professional photographer Peter Rosén. With more than 20 years of experience in photographing Aurora borealis, the Arctic landscape and wildlife, Peter offers you an in-depth photo course on how to capture aurora, stars, galaxies, Sámi culture, wildlife and the spellbinding midwinter landscape in the best possible way. Peter has worked 17 years in environmental science and has a background as an associate professor. He is also the photographer behind the books “Aurora Borealis in Lapland” and “Midnight Sun over Swedish Lapland”.
We have the photo equipment for you
The tour is part of the Canon Photography School and thanks to Canon and Manfrotto, we can offer amateur and professional SLR cameras, lenses (14-500mm), tripods, an astro star tracker – without any additional cost.
We can help you to extend your tour
We can recommend you to add two extra nights at Camp Ripan in Kiruna including full board, activities and all transfers. Choose between snow mobile tour, dogsledding, evening aurora photo tour with Sami photographers or visit the Sami people and get knowledge about their daily life. Or if you want to live more in the nature we can also add extra nights at Aurora Wilderness Camp. Our extended package price is 6770 SEK per person in a double room and 8220 SEK/person in a single room.
Lapland Landscapes and Aurora Borealis: After lunch we will get dressed with warm clothes and head out to Aurora Wilderness Camp where you can light a fire and settle into your cosy cabin in the forest. Do not expect luxury’s at the camp but beautiful views over the Torne River, the mountains and excellent spots for Aurora photographing straight from your cabin. A great place for adventures. We will use the evening light for landscape photographing from the lodge. Before dinner we will go through the basics in aurora and night photographing.
After a 2 course gourmet dinner at the lodge it is time to rug up and head out for aurora hunting! We will keep an eye on the weather and the aurora forecast and we will go to whichever location will give us the best chance of seeing the aurora borealis, and we have many stunning locations to choose from.
Dog sledding and Aurora Borealis: We start a dogsledding tour in the morning from our cabins. Our dog sledding guide will drive us into the forest and onto frozen lakes for several hours, making stops for photography along the way. Lunch outdoors over an open fire inside a lavvu (a traditional Sami teepee tent). In the afternoon we will have some free time to down load images, time for private tuition and a wooden-heated sauna. After our 2 course dinner, we will go aurora hunting, a pattern we repeat each and every night. If the Aurora comes out to dance, we are often out quite late (trust us, you will forget you are tired if you are watching the aurora).
Moose, ICEHOTEL and Aurora Borealis: After breakfast we will drive up to the mountains to see and photograph moose (no guarantee to see one but all groups in 2015-16 have succeeded) and nice landscapes. Moose is the largest species in the deer family. You are welcome to borrow long Canon tele lenses from us for wildlife photographing (eg. 400:2.8, 300,2.8, 400:4.0, 300:4.0). We will have lunch at a restaurant in Kiruna. In the afternoon we will visit the world famous ICEHOTEL. The ICEHOTEL is the world’s first hotel made of ice and snow. Founded in 1989, it is reborn in a new guise every winter, in the Swedish village of Jukkasjärvi. A very nice location for photographing! After a 2 course dinner we will go out dog sledding at night time to search for the Aurora. The dogs will become a nice foreground to our images.
Departure day: After dragging ourselves out of bed and having breakfast, you depart at a civilized mid-morning time to Kiruna for some shopping, visiting the church in Kiruna and then to the airport or your hotel in Kiruna. You may like to spend more time in Kiruna or Stockholm, or stop over at one of the many wonderful European destinations close-by on your way home. By now you will want to sleep for a million years, but you will not be able to wipe the smile from your face. We recommend you to have your departure flight earliest around lunch time.

Why should you choose us for your next photo adventure?
